I preparations for a long distance ride my wife and I are taking in a few months to Monument Valley I thought I would look around for map holder options on our touring bike.  I am wanting a map since I am not sure how good cellphone  and GPS reception will be.  Don’t want to get lost on the desert roads!  My first thought was using a magnetic tank map.  As I was searching the internet I came across an interesting map holder called the Moto-Map Sak.

It is an arm or thigh mounted pocket that holds Moto-Maps. The pocket itself was an interesting find that I thought might be useful.  Strap it to your forearm or thigh (aviation style) and you have a 6″ x 4″ clear pouch where you could put your Turn List or a strip map.

Then I discovered an even cooler thing.  Moto-Maps are map flip books that are designed to fit into the holder.  These Moto-Maps have about 7 loop style rides mapped out.  On one page is the map with color coding and on the other is the turn list.  You decide which one you have showing in the pouch.

Unfortunately they seem to have more for the eastern portion of the United States (see image list below), but for us Coloradians that have one for Colorado and Sturgis. Maybe they will make more of these for our neck of the woods.

Might just have to check these out. Read more at the Moto-Maps website or Road Captain USA website which features several articles about the maps.
